Goalkeeper (GK): The only player allowed to use their hands within the penalty area. Their primary job is to prevent the opposing team from scoring.
Right Back/Right Wingback (RB/RWB): A defender on the right side of the field. They protect their side from attacks and often support offensive play by moving up the wing.
Left Back/Left Wingback (LB/LWB): A defender on the left side. Similar to the right back, they focus on defensive duties but can also join attacks down the flank.
Center Back (CB): There are typically two center backs. They stay centrally to block attacks and clear the ball from dangerous areas.
Sweeper Center Back (SW): Not as common in modern formations, the sweeper plays behind the center backs and "sweeps" up any loose balls. They often have more freedom to move.
Defensive Midfielder (CDM or DM): Positioned in front of the defense, they focus on breaking up opposition attacks and distributing the ball to more advanced players.
Right Midfielder/Winger (RM/RW): Plays along the right side, supporting both defense and attack. Wingers tend to stay wide and focus on crossing or cutting into the penalty area.
Left Midfielder/Winger (LM/LW): Similar to the right midfielder/winger, but positioned on the left side.
Central Midfielder (CM): The link between defense and attack. They are versatile, responsible for distributing the ball and supporting both offensive and defensive play.
Attacking Midfielder (CAM or AM): Positioned behind the forwards, their primary job is to create goal-scoring opportunities with passes or shots on goal.
Second Striker, Striker, Center Forward (SS, ST, CF): The Striker(s) are the main goal scorer(s). They are positioned closest to the opponent's goal and are responsible for finishing attacking moves.
